Intelligent Image Processing Camera for Datamatrix and Pharma Code Control
 

This intelligent camera system is designed for fast, but save Datamatrix code or Pharmaceutical binary code reading and print mark detection.

Applications
 

Code reading is applicable for various packaging types, e.g.:

• vials
• ampoules
• tubes
• steel cylinders
• blisters
• cartons
• leaflets
• labels
• foils

The code can be printed by thermotransfer-, laser- or ink-jet-printers. Square codes from 10x10 up to 32x32, rectangular codes up to 18x48 modules are readable. Inspection of dark codes on a light background is possible and vice versa. Additionally, the camera reads also pharmaceutical binary codes, monochrome or multi coloured, as standard, mini or micro code. Up to 5 extra windows inspect the presence of additional print colours on labels and cartons.

Operation
 

Automatic teach-in is easily possible. Additionally, codes can be entered manually by the attached mini keyboard, by a laptop or via LAN. Optics are easily and fast to be focussed by two spot LEDs. A manual trigger is integrated. The camera system can be networked together with other PCE code reading units. The Datamatrix camera is address-able without restrictions.

System Components
 
The small camera head includes all essential parts, as illumination, optics and video unit, in a compact housing meeting GMP standards. Therefore the camera can be installed even at very narrow machine areas.

The control unit is separated from the camera head and has also very small dimensions. Connectable to the camera system are the operator terminal with flat LCD monitor and keyboard, other PCE code reader input devices, laptops or others.

Fault Analysis
 

Extended statistics are evaluated including a very detailed failure analysis:

• Code displacement, if the code starts to leave the acceptable print range.
• Reading error, if the code exists, but is unreadable.
• Wrong code error
• Print quality warning, if the ECC level is exceeded. ECC describes the level of misprint correction. The ECC target level is adjustable as threshold for decreasing print quality.
